An Interview with Massi Giorgeschi

This month we say hello to photographer and our new Fig bags Ambassador Massi. Here he shares his passions and treasures.

What sort of work do you specialize in? Since I love photographing people I specialise in portraiture. I particularly love working with creative minds and that leads me to work with artists and agencies for commercial and editorial photography.

How long have you been a photographer? I’ve been a photographer for almost 4 years even though I’ve been freelance for the last 2.

What or who got you started in photography? About 5 years ago, I friend of mine throw a camera in my hands asking to take some photos of him and some other friends while spending some time with me in London. Holding that camera just reminded me how much I loved art and media and I never consider practice it until that day. I went home, bought my first camera and started to study and practice every single day. From there lots of things happened and now here I am.

How would you describe your style? I don’t know if I can say I found my style yet. All I can say is I know what I like and what I take inspiration from. I love dramatic photos, I love using colours and shapes of light.

What type of cameras do you shoot with? I shoot both digital and film. I have 4 cameras I like to use: Nikon D610 which I use mostly for work, a Fuji X100T which is my fun camera that I always have with me, a Mamiya RZ67 which is my new entry and I can’t wait to shoot more with it and finally an Olympus OM20 which I found in my house that I like to use for street and practise with film.

What kit can you fit in your fig bag? In my Fig Bag I can fit my essentials regardless if I go out for work or for some street photography. If I pack my Fig Bag for work I can always fit my camera body with my 24-70mm and a flash with the triggers. I use the extra pockets for filters, film rolls and all the little extras.

What has been your most memorable job and why? I don’t really have a memorable job because every single shoot is memorable in a way or another. When you photograph human beings it’s always a unique experience and you always get to learn something new about the subject and yourself.

What is your favourite image you have shot recently? (It’s at the top of this interview) I’ve shot a few that I really like recently but I will choose this one from a photoshoot with Adam a model from London. It’s a shot that is a bit different from what I usually do and it’s something that I want to replicate in the future in different situations.  I like that editorial-pop feel. (Image shown above)

What is the best thing about your fig bag? Beside the incredible adaptability of the bag to the situations and the kit, I absolutely love the design and the details. Walk around with a bag that doesn’t scream “there is a camera inside!” it’s awesome! Oh, the smell, it’s weird, I know, but I love the smell of this bag.

A photographer/s who inspires you? There are a lot so I will mention just a few. I will start with one that recently past away: Peter Lindberg. His photography will always make me stop, stare and admire for hours. I love Chris Knight for his incredible use of the light. Then Joey L, Steve McCurry, Mark Seliger and two great friends of mine Louis Browne and Nicola Bernardi.

If you could have lunch with anyone, who would it be? I need a bit of time for this but surely someone that appreciate good food like me, anybody wants to join?
